What a Small World , 2016, director/writer

What a Small World (2016) is part of Beijing Film Academy graduate film programme. The plot is about a twelve-year-old boy Qiuqiu who manipulates a sextortion only for having the French fries. This film reaches multiple social discourses in contemporary China, such as queerness, one-child policy, one-parent family, sex work and intersectionality. By blending the 80s’ comedy and musical genres, What a Small World represents a campy and surreal mise-en-scène through the child’s gaze.
